Victoria claimed 20 spots on the prestigious list overall, which was compiled by aggregating votes from a panel of 15 well-known Australians and tourism industry experts.
Beechworth was praised for its heritage streetscapes, standout food scene and access to wineries and hikes, while Rutherglen continues to fly the flag for the region's world-class wine culture and experiences.
“Great hikes, beer and bakery. More people should visit,” said panellist Adrian Williams about Beechworth and the Indigo area.
Victoria’s strong showing spans every travel style, from country towns and food hubs to wellness retreats, beach escapes and cultural centres, reflecting the state’s remarkable variety within a few hours’ drive.
Leading the Victorian charge is Port Fairy (No. 4 overall), which was crowned Australia’s top Festival and Events town, thanks to its rich cultural calendar anchored by the famous folk festival, historic streetscapes and enduring seaside charm.
Elsewhere, Lorne (No. 11) and Meeniyan (No. 27) cemented Victoria’s ever-growing reputation as a food and wine destination, while Daylesford (No. 12) once again proved its wellness credentials.
Australian Traveller Print Editor and panellist Imogen Eveson said it is a good sign when you visit somewhere and can imagine yourself living there.
“That’s the experience I’ve had in just about every regional Victorian town I’ve ever been to, many of them reflected on this list,” Ms Evason said.
“It speaks to a rich seam of character and culture that runs through each community, large or small – whether its backdrop is coastal, river, high country, wine region or goldfields.”
The full list highlights Victoria’s ability to deliver meaningful, memorable travel experiences across seasons from cosy inland escapes to lively coastal towns and heritage-rich regional centres.
