The completion of a major redevelopment of Seymour Health’s operating suite was celebrated on Friday, August 21, with project partners and hospital staff getting the first look at the new facilities.

The redevelopment includes the creation of the Central Sterilising Service Department, resulting in vital upgrades to the sterilising process at the hospital.
With the operating suite project being funded through a Victorian Health Building Authority grant, representatives from project office VIDA Health – senior project manager Tim Smith and project manager Diyar Pakravan – were welcomed to Seymour Health to witness how the investment was benefiting the hospital.
The VIDA Health representatives were joined by architecture firm Baldasso Cortese site supervisor Joel Harbour and Seymour Health staff members for a guided tour through the redevelopment, which was led by Seymour Health chief executive Ward Steet and nurse unit manager Georgie Lowerson.
“Today marks an important milestone for Seymour Health as we officially open the first stage of this redevelopment project,” Mr Steet said before the tour kicked off.
“The investment supports the delivery of safe, modern and high-quality care for our patients, staff and community.
“This redevelopment has been carefully designed to enhance the patient experience, improve workflows for our clinical teams and support the delivery of contemporary surgical services.”
Ward Steet welcomed the group to the upgraded facilities.

The project complies with the Australian standard relating to the reprocessing of reusable medical devices and other devices in health and non-health related facilities.
“(AS 5369:2023 is) the current Australian standard that sets uniform rules for cleaning, disinfecting and sterilising items to keep patients safe,” Mr Steet said.
“Compliance with this standard helps ensure that our operating suite facilities support patient safety, infection prevention and control, accessibility, functionality and future service needs.”
Aside from the VIDA Health representatives and Mr Harbour, Mr Steet said there were a number of people to thank who made the project possible.
On the list includes construction company Raysett Construction, Seymour Health project manager Steve O’Brien, Seymour Health executive project sponsor Anne Daley, Seymour Health project steering committee chair Vickie Callaghan and Ms Lowerson and her team.
Mr Steet said the first stage of the redevelopment was a significant investment for the community, and he hoped that funding applications for the delivery of the second stage would also be successful.
“Stage one represents a significant investment in the future of healthcare delivery at Seymour Health, and we are proud to be providing facilities that meet contemporary healthcare standards while supporting the needs of our staff, patients and community,” he said.
“Thank you to everyone who has contributed to bringing this project to life and thank you all for joining us to celebrate this achievement.”
