The Rochy Bowls Club man, along with club mates Brooke Coghill and Rob Clayton, travelled to Auburn Bowls Club on September 25.
There, they competed in a grand final eve triples tournament, winning against 27 other teams to come away with $250 each.
A day later, Keech was watching his Brisbane Lions three-peat against Fremantle in one of the most dramatic deciders in years.
And the skipper certainly doesn’t hide his fandom.
“He's got the Lions colours on his bowls,” Clayton said.
“He got them specially done after the last premiership, so he's a true Brisbane man.”
Clayton laughed when asked whether Keech was still in a good mood from the very successful long weekend.
The trio made the trip to support the Auburn club, given it sends up 10 to 15 bowlers each year to Rochy’s tournament held near Anzac Day.
Clubs supporting each other is a big part of what happens away from the greens, or as Clayton puts it, “what you have to do”.
“We wanted to go back and support them for supporting us,” he said.
“Brooke and I are tournament secretaries and you have to go to other places to get people to come to you.”
Such tournaments are fundamentally about community and connectivity.
But once the first bowl was rolled, the competitive edge kicks in. It clearly did for the Rochy trio.
The accolade meant more to Coghill, who seized the opportunity to show off her improving game.
“Brooke’s only been playing four or five years,” Clayton said.
“I’m not sure if she’s won a reasonably big tournament like that one before, so she was pretty stoked.”
