The Under 17 Rutherglen Cats faced off against the highly fancied Yackandandah Roos at Yack, aiming to continue their winning form following a solid victory against Wodonga last week.
The Cats started off positively, with Captain Flynn Verhulst proving to be a formidable presence up forward, scoring the first three goals of the match.
Early success instilled confidence in the entire team, who played spirited football throughout the game.
In the second quarter, Flynn added another goal to his tally, complemented by goals from Logan Morley and Harry Chandler.
By the end of the first half, Rutherglen had established a 21-point lead, setting the stage for an exciting second half.
The third quarter was marked by an even contest, with Jax Ramsey winning the tap in the ruck and brothers Logan and Hugo Poole demonstrating strength through the centre.
Wingmen Logan Hurley and Zavier Manns also showed determination in their efforts.
Further goals from Logan Morley and Harry Chandler left Rutherglen with a commanding 26-point lead as the match headed into the final quarter.
The last quarter saw a flurry of activity in the Yack forward 50, but the Rutherglen defence, led by Arthur Morris, Jack Chandler, Harry Chandler, Tyler Yeoman, and Elijah McFarlane, held strong, repelling and rushing many of the Roos' advances.
Brayden McInnes scored an important goal to ensure that Yackandandah did not gain any momentum.
Ultimately, Rutherglen secured a well-deserved 19-point victory, and the team should be incredibly proud of their effort against a much higher-placed opponent.
The Cats displayed great belief in each other and showcased their teamwork throughout the match.
