The Cougars made another early start on Saturday, travelling to Tumbarumba where freezing conditions and near-snowfall greeted both teams.
The Muddogs came out firing, scoring early to put the pressure on.
However, some excellent kick chase and relentless pressure allowed the Cougars to hit back, taking the lead after a converted try.
The wet conditions turned the match into a forwards battle, and the Cougars pack stood up to the challenge.
The skilful Muddogs looked to spread the ball wide and found success twice, but the Cougars defence quickly adjusted and shut those opportunities down for the remainder of the game.
With minimal errors and the ability to capitalise on the Muddogs' mistakes, the Cougars edged in front with around 14 minutes remaining.
The final stages were a tense, end-to-end contest that had everyone on the edge of their seats.
As fatigue set in, the Cougars' line speed slowed, allowing the Muddogs to work their way upfield.
But a crunching defensive effort forced a loose carry, leaving the Cougars with just one minute and 40 seconds to defend their lead.
A deep clearing kick gave the Muddogs one final set to snatch victory.
They threw everything they had at the Cougars, but the black and white held firm until the final whistle.
Congratulations to all the players involved; the hard work being put in at training and the team-building efforts are beginning to show, with the side continuing to grow in confidence and belief.
