Nathalia proved most successful of the local sides in B-grade, claiming a three-wicket win over Tungamah at Yalca North Recreation Reserve.
Asked to bowl after losing the toss, both Jason McKenna and Darcy Maloney snared three wickets, finishing with figures of 3-7 and 3-22, respectively, as Nathalia bowled Tungamah out for 109 inside 39 overs.
A tricky chase was bolstered by 45 to Mark Wilson, while Adam Zammit (19) and Benjamin Horrocks (18 not out) were also influential, as the hosts reached 111 for the loss of seven wickets.
Cobram was unable to overcome Finley at Finley Recreation Reserve, going down by five wickets after being bowled out for 131 after winning the toss and electing to bat, with Stephen Badrock’s 37 the top score for the Tigers.
Andrew Hogan was the only multiple wicket-taker for Cobram as they attempted to defend their total, snaring 2-23, though it proved futile as the Cats romped to the win in just 30.2 overs.
Barooga too suffered a tough loss, going down by 80 runs to Berrigan at Barooga Recreation Reserve.
Losing the toss and being asked to bowl, the Hawks looked to be right in the hunt after bowling the Saints out for 129 in only 28 overs, with skipper Samuel Leigh snaring 5-36, well supported by Caleb Goesch (3-18) and Brandon Nicholls (2-23).
But it all fell apart in the chase, with Nicholls (10) the only Hawk to make double-digits, as Barooga was bowled out for 49.
C-grade
Round two of the C-grade competition saw the clash between Katamatite and Katunga washed out on Sunday, with the Tigers having been bowled out for 81 and the Swans well on the way to victory at 2-57 through 14 overs before the rain hit.
It meant the clash between Nathalia and Barooga on Saturday was the only match featuring local sides to obtain a result, and it was a mammoth victory to the hosts at Nathalia Showgrounds.
Half-centuries to each of Nathan Binks (53), Josh Woods (50) and Thomas Favaro (52), all of whom retired not-out, helped Nathalia post a massive 5-301after winning the toss and electing to bat, and the Hawks fell well short in reply.
Thomas Binks’ 3-0 told the story, as Barooga failed to have a single batter record a double-digit score, while four recorded ducks, as the Hawks were reduced to 9-31 in 11.1 overs, going down by a huge 270 runs.
