C Grade’s season came to an end on Sunday with a heartbreaking 3 goal loss to Lavington.
The Roos came out firing, producing an outstanding opening quarter to take a 15–9 lead at the first break.
They continued working hard through the second term and held a 27–18 advantage at half time.
Lavington responded strongly after the main break, with the Roos forced to absorb plenty of pressure as the game tightened.
Despite fighting to the final whistle, Lavington worked their way in front late to secure the win.
The girls put on a spirited performance, leading at the half-way mark, but couldn’t contain the fightback from Lavington.
Alex Gniel was best on court for the Roos, putting together another composed and consistent performance in goal attack.
Alex worked tirelessly to provide options, combined well with those around her and finished accurately under pressure, shooting 25 goals from 28 attempts for the match.
Jemma Smith was another standout, working incredibly hard through the midcourt.
Her speed, determination and ability to continually present in attack were important throughout the game, while also applying strong defensive pressure and fighting for every loose ball.
Zoe Prentice was brilliant in our defensive end; she competed relentlessly for four quarters, applying constant pressure to Lavington’s attacking end and creating opportunities for the Roos to regain possession.
While it wasn’t the result the group had hoped for, there is much to be proud of from an incredible season.
The girls fought until the very end and represented Corowa Rutherglen with plenty of passion, determination and heart.
