After a history-making day for the Corowa Rutherglen female football program, with three of the four teams making it through to Grand Finals, the program unfortunately couldn’t come away with any silverware. But what was witnessed throughout the day was far greater than the result.
The girls fought for each other, encouraged each other, picked each other up and kept going right until the final siren. They experienced the highs and lows of Grand Final football, with the older girls leading by example and an entire club standing proudly behind them.

All season, the message has been that winning isn’t just about trophies. It’s about creating an environment where girls feel they belong. Where lifelong friendships are formed, confidence grows, challenges are faced together, and every player feels supported, valued and proud to pull on the blue and white.
To the players — heads should be held incredibly high. What has been achieved this season is special. Three Grand Final appearances across four teams is a remarkable achievement and a true reflection of the commitment, determination and spirit within the program.
To the coaches, volunteers, families, supporters and everyone who has played a part in this journey — thank you. The sea of blue and white around Birallee Park was something truly special and a moment that will stay with the club for a long time.
No cups are coming home this year, but something far more important is, an enormous amount of pride in who these girls are, what they have achieved and what the Corowa Rutherglen Football Club stands for.
The future of female football at Corowa Rutherglen is incredibly bright.
Under 12s

The young Roos girls faced equal ladder leaders Lavington in the decider, with the Panthers getting off to a two-goal head start.
The Roos fought hard to claw their way back into the contest, refusing to give in despite the early deficit. While Lavington ultimately proved too strong on the day, it takes nothing away from the incredible effort and determination shown by the young girls throughout the season to earn themselves a place in the Grand Final.
Under 15s

The Under 15s girls faced fellow ladder leaders Lavington in another hard-fought Grand Final. After a slow start from both sides, it was the Panthers who broke through first, kicking the opening goal of the game in the second quarter.
The young Roos found another gear in the premiership quarter, working their way back into the contest and getting within just one point of Lavington. They carried that momentum into the final quarter, setting up a thrilling finish.
Unfortunately, the girls couldn’t quite hold on, with Lavington running out seven-point winners in a gripping contest.
While the result didn’t go their way, the fight and determination shown by the young Roos to come back from behind and put themselves in a position to win was nothing short of outstanding.

The Under 18s also faced ladder leaders Lavington, knowing it would take a huge effort to overcome the Panthers.
The Roos had an answer for everything Lavington threw at them early, matching their opponents on the scoreboard in a classic, old-fashioned shootout. The two sides went blow for blow, with the scores locked at 19 apiece at half-time, setting up a thrilling second half.
Lavington found another gear in the third quarter, creating enough separation to put themselves in control of the contest.
The young Roos fought hard to stay in the game, but unfortunately couldn’t quite hold on, with the Panthers eventually running out winners.
Despite the result, the effort and determination shown by the Under 18s throughout the contest was immense, and their Grand Final appearance was a fantastic reward for an outstanding season.
