New Zealand natives Rennie Pearson and Bob McNeill, known as Half Light, are taking their original Celtic music to the land down under next month, including a show at The Vault in Shepparton on Wednesday, June 19.
Audiences will be entranced by a spell-binding blend of traditional and inventive folk tunes with experimental rhythms that can be as quiet as a creek or as rapturous as a waterfall.
Individually, Pearson and McNeill are celebrated musicians, having received numerous accolades and toured globally both as soloists and in groups.
But together, Pearson’s tangled wisps of flute curl and the soft strum of McNeill’s guitar strings reverberate to create a unique sound never before heard in the folk scene.
During their shows, the magic happens in what Half Light calls “the lift”.
It’s an inexorable energy created when wooden flutes, Irish tin whistles and acoustic guitars flourish, which have crowds toe-tapping and clapping along.
When Half Light’s melodies fade and the curtain falls, what audiences will have discovered are two instrumental virtuosos who shine brighter than their band name suggests.
Half Light will perform on Wednesday, June 19, at 7.30pm at The Vault, 168R Maude St, Shepparton.
