Construction of the $4.7 million Numurkah Flood Levee Northern Bank is progressing well, with completion expected by March 2026.
Planning for the Southern Levee Bank is also under way, with $225,000 allocated for detailed design by June 2026.
Chair Administrator Dr Graeme Emonson PSM said these investments address a critical community need.
"The Numurkah Flood Levee has been a top priority for residents for many years, and we're pleased to be delivering this essential infrastructure," Dr Emonson said.
"These works will provide peace of mind for property owners and businesses while supporting the town's economic development."
The development of a masterplan for Lake Numurkah is another key initiative, with extensive community consultation planned in 2026 to shape the future of this important community feature.
“Many people don’t know that a large portion of the lake is privately owned, so council needs to ensure that the private owners are fully engaged and committed to the process of community engagement and planning for the future of the lake before this project commences,” Dr Emonson said.
Other key projects for Numurkah include:
- The implementation of drainage improvements from the Numurkah Drainage Plan
- The development of the Numurkah, Katunga and Strathmerton Growth Corridor Strategy, and
- Community facility improvements to enhance liveability
"The Growth Corridor Strategy will provide a framework for sustainable development across Numurkah, Katunga and Strathmerton, ensuring these communities can thrive into the future,” Dr Emonson said.
