James Trenery, a former Indigo Shire Mayor, has nominated for preselection as the candidate for the Liberal Party's bid to defeat incumbent member for Indi, independent Helen Haines.
Mr Trenery is one of three contenders who have put themselves forward with the others being Michael McKinnell from Healesville and Travis Vincent from Hawthorn.
Mr Trenery, a Yackandandah local, owns a farm in Talgarno and operates a courier business in the border area. He previously owned a florist in Wodonga.
Mr Trenery served eight years on Indigo Shire Council between 2012 and 2020 and was mayor in 2015-16.
If he is successful in the preselection, Mr Trenery will join former Indigo councillors and mayors Jenny O’Connor and Barb Murdoch to contest the seat of Indi.
Under Liberal Party rules, preselection candidates cannot speak to the media.
