“Mark has significant experience as a senior executive and comes highly recommended to us as a safe pair of hands,” Berrigan Shire Mayor Julia Cornwell McKean said.

“We are pleased to have Mark on board so quickly and for him to have an opportunity to receive a handover from Karina.”

The appointment follows the resignation of current CEO Karina Ewer, who is relocating to Queensland to take up a position at Charters Towers Regional Council.

Ms Ewer departed at the end of last month after serving four years at Berrigan Shire Council.

“We are very sorry to see Karina go, but we understand her desire to move back to Queensland. Karina's four years at Berrigan Shire have been very positive. I especially want to recognise her work spearheading council's digital transformation. When Karina first arrived, we did not even have an internet cable running to our office in Chanter St capable of providing the broadband internet we needed,” Cr Cornwell McKean said.

During her tenure, Ms Ewer led a significant transition program focused on improving council services and efficiency.
