Isaiah Miniyo, 28, of Merrigum, appeared in a brief filing hearing in Shepparton Magistrates’ Court on Monday, September 7.
He is charged with the murder of a 30-year-old man.
The charge comes after police were called to a caravan park in Waverley Ave, Merrigum at about 3.10am on Saturday, September 5, following reports of an alleged violent altercation.
When police arrived, they found two men who appeared injured, with the 30-year-old unresponsive.
Local police provided immediate assistance to the pair and performed CPR on the 30-year-old, who could not be revived.
Mr Miniyo was taken to hospital in a stable condition, before being released and taken into police custody.
In court on Monday, Mr Miniyo sat in the dock as his defence solicitor Luke Slater spoke to the court about his custody management issues.
Mr Slater told the court Mr Miniyo had injuries to his face, arm and hand, and asked that he be seen by a custody nurse.
He also told the court it was Mr Miniyo’s first time in custody, and that English was not his first language.
Mr Miniyo did not enter pleases to the charge, and did not apply for bail.
He was remanded in custody, to next appear in Shepparton Magistrates’ Court in December for a committal mention.
