The Deniliquin Racing Club’s first meeting for 2024 is eagerly anticipated, with an impressive 113 horses nominated for the five race program.
It includes 19 nominations for NSW and Victorian stables for the main race, the $16,000 White Lion Hotel Motel Diggers Cup (race four).
The first race is scheduled for 1.25pm, allowing patrons to attend Anzac Day services before heading out to the track on what is expected to be a fine autumn day.
Racing Club president Greg Danckert said the club is expecting a bumper day of racing, complemented by a host of activities to keep everyone entertained.
This includes the popular Fashions on the Field, sponsored by Murray Constructions. Patrons are encouraged to dress in their finest and compete for a vast pool of prizes in senior and under 17 categories for male and female.
For football fans, the big Anzac Day AFL clash between traditional rivals Collingwood and Essendon will be broadcast on the big screen.
This is set to be a bumper clash after both sides scored impressive wins in recent days.
Punters will be well catered for with full TAB facilities, plus local and metropolitan bookmakers.
Many people take advantage of the Peppercorn Party Paddock at the local races, and tickets in this popular marquee are still available.
The ticket entitles patrons to racecourse entry, food and refreshments, live music, race book, television access and seating for the day.
Last minute Peppercorn tickets are available by contacting Racing Club treasurer Col McMahon 0428 266 730 or secretary Geoff Corboy 0427 221 011.
Late bookings for private marquees are also available.
Also back this year is the traditional Anzac Day two-up, which will be held after the last race.
A bus service will operate to and from the races, with numerous pick-up sites around town. The timetable can be found below.
Danckert said the club held two very successful meetings in 2023 and was excited with the prospect of continuing the momentum this year.
“This is all made possible with the ongoing support of our local community and many local businesses, for which we are extremely grateful,” he said.
