The Lavington Panthers proved to be too good for the Roos, especially in the third quarter when they banged on ten goals to snuff out any chance team had at an upset win against the ladder leaders.

The game was played at a frenetic pace early and when with Jarred Lane banged one through from fifty the Roos looked on song. It wasn’t until the eleven minute mark that Lavington first scored when their game of spreading from defence and centering into attack started to take effect.
A strong contested mark by Tim Brook set up his first of four goals in a best afield performance and the Roos took a slender lead. But that was short lived when the Panthers took advantage of a couple of confounding decisions to lead by fourteen points at quarter time.
Gus Lingham, Rohan Davies and Jarred Lane were the main drivers of the Roos impressive start to the game, matching their opposition at the contest but lacking a little bit of polish to take advantage of their hard work.
The Panthers forwards were treated with pinpoint delivery from their midfielders in the second quarter to open up a thirty point lead, but the Roos were not to be denied when Brook and Alex Wallis both goaled to keep the Roos in touch. Great smothers by Hayden Filliponi and Joe Hansen typified the Roos intent and if not for a couple of late goals to Lavi, the margin could have been as little as a few points.
Brook was on fire early in the third with four score involvements in as many minutes when suddenly the momentum shifted after a couple of ill directed passes deep in defence let the Panthers back in and they didn’t look back. Kade Kuschert and Rohan Davies refused to surrender and the Roos finished off with three goals in the last, two of them to Shane Tregear.
Although Lavi posted a big score, the Roos managed multiple goals in each quarter and double figures for the game against a team that looks grand final bound.
The football department is pleased to announce they have already secured a few quality players for next year and have also re-signed the vast majority of the current group including club greats Kade Kuschert and Jamie Seymour who celebrated their 300th and 200th games this year. The challenge now is to attract some tall timber to bolster the goal-to-goal line.
2019 has been a season ravaged by injury and with a bit more luck on this front, the Roos look forward to more on-field success next year.

Reserves
The Roos started where they left off after their win against the Bulldogs last week with the opening two goals of the game. Matt Tanner gathered a loose ball and shot truly form thirty metres and moments later Alex Finlayson scored from the goal square.
The game stalemated for the next fifteen minutes until Lavi goaled twice in a minute to take a narrow lead at quarter time. The Panthers stamped their authority on the game in the second quarter when the ball rarely entered the Roos forward fifty. Frustration was apparent amongst the Roos when their strong tackling went unrewarded by the umpires.
It was a struggle for the Roos in the second half with John Conroy being the team’s only goal scorer. But it was a goal to remember. Conroy lunged at the ball deep in defence to save a certain Lavi goal then bolted the full length of the ground to set up his scoring opportunity. Great effort.
Matt Wilson was the Roos best player followed closely by Matt and James Tanner. Scott and Joel Montgomery, Sam Severin, Beau Schilg, Sam Severin, Max Taylor and Pete Whyte all played solid games. Well done to Jordan Eyers and Blake Spencer who doubled up from the Thirds due to several of last week’s winning team members were unavailable. We look forward to everyone returning next year and continue to build on the club’s improvement.

Thirds
The young Roo’s came out looking forward to their encounter with the Panthers, however, the home side came out firing and kicked two quick goals before the Roos realised what had happened. With a goal apiece for the remainder of the first quarter, Lavi held a two-goal lead at the break.
A stirring speech by Coach Dave Melksham shocked the boys into action with a five goal to nil second quarter. Bailey Pirnag, Darcy Melksham, Mak Lavis, Will Seymour and Brayden Maclean worked extremely hard around the ball while Jacob Beveridge and Tom Robinson dominated in the ruck.
The forwards stood tall with Kaelan Bradtke, Hayden Weller, Reilly Black, Deakin Clancy and Preston Pedron all providing targets. The backs were miserly with Luke Backhouse and Blake Spencer cutting off all avenues to goal for the Panthers.
In another dominant four-goal to two third quarter, the Roos continued to widen the margin.
With a strong sniff of victory, the Roos continued to contest every ball in the last quarter to be victorious by six goals with Jordan Eyers and Nathan McDonald always in the thick of things.
Also to be noted was the contribution of U16’s players Ryan Eyers, Luke Heagney and Jacob Habermann who all look to have a bright future at senior level in the years to come.
