The work will include upgrades to footpaths, the pedestrian crossing, stormwater and water mains, and accessibility upgrades along what is known more commonly as Murray St to locals.
These works are being carried out by Berrigan Shire Council, who will also complete landscaping in this stage.
Completion of this stage is expected to trigger the third and final stage, which will be the final road surfacing of parking bays and the Pinnuck St intersection.
Stage one, delivered by Transport for NSW in May, consisted of road reconstruction.
Transport for NSW regional director south Cassandra Ffrench said the improvements are designed to deliver a smoother and safer highway.
The pedestrian crossing will also be relocated further away from the Pinnuck St intersection, by about 50m, to improve safety.
“In response to community feedback, the existing raised medians will be removed, and parking reinstated in its place,” Ms Ffrench said.
Berrigan Shire Council said while this will affect some existing parking spaces, the number overall will not change along Murray St.
Once stage two is completed, final road surfacing of parking bays and the Pinnuck St intersection will start.
“The parking spaces lost due to the new mid-block pedestrian crossing will be offset by spaces gained from the removal of the old crossing,” the council said.
While efforts are being made to keep disruptions to a minimum, council said some may be unavoidable.
This includes during work on replacing the AC water main with a uPVC water main, intended to improve water supply.
“As part of the connection of the new untreated water main, it will be necessary to temporarily shut off the untreated water supply for a period of up to four hours during the day,” council said.
“Affected residents and businesses should have been notified well in advance via a letterbox drop.
“Following the completion of the connection, we recommend running your tap briefly to flush out any discoloured water that may be present in the pipes.”
