With just six crypts currently available at need, trustees are seeking to add a further 80 to the public mausoleum at the Cobram Cemetery.
“We’re planning for the future,” trust secretary-treasurer Rachel Mckay said.
While funds are available to cover the cost of the extension, Mrs Mckay said the trust needed the support of the community to get the latest extension off the ground.
Without a show of community interest, the trust cannot get approval for the extension from the Victorian Department of Health, Mrs Mckay explained.
“We need the community to express an interest in the mausoleum project, not necessarily to say you want to buy [a crypt], but to say that you consider it an option for your needs,” she said.
The best way to show your support for the mausoleum extension is to contact Rachel Mckay on 0418 306 265.

It’s as simple as signing a form to show you support the project.
The mausoleum at the cemetery was officially opened in April 2002 following considerable community support.
Since then, there have been three separate extensions to the original building, in 2005, 2007 and 2021.
The trust is hoping to have all expressions of interest submitted by July 31.
