“This has been a very tough decision for me and my family as it's a role I have felt very honoured and proud to hold,” an emotional Mr Hore said.
“To say it's been an emotional roller coaster would be an understatement. Yep, there's been many lows, but there have also been a lot of highs.”
Mr Hore is standing down believing netball is in great hands with Lauren Connell and Riley O’Kane who has begun his journey as senior coach.
“These two individuals are devoted and committed in taking the Lions forward,” he said.
“I spoke to the under 14s boys after the game at Mitta and asked if they'd made any new friends by coming to the Lions. Some raised their hands and I said that's what it should all be about.
It’s no secret Wahgunyah football has taken a pounding score-wise in senior games in recent years but plenty of the volunteer club members have worked tirelessly to get football sides on ovals and improve sides.
As senior coach, Chris Willis has done a mighty job each week inspiring his side but is not coaching the side at present.
The president has also done a mighty job since his involvement started at the club some 12 years ago and was in his second stint as president.
A long-time supporter of the Lions told The Free Press: “Horey has presided over the club in an extremely difficult time and bleeds for the club.”
“I've been very fortunate to meet a lot of new people through my journey and I'm also happy to think that I've also made some life-long friends.
“The last thing I want to do is disappoint any of these people by making this decision but unfortunately, I just cannot see a way forward for myself as president,” Mr Hore said.
He has no doubt the club will continue to grow. “Most definitely, to see our junior netballers and our junior footballers strong again is something the entire club should be proud of. They are the future, not me,” he said.
“Fresh ideas are what will take us forward and we should welcome and support those ideas.
Mr Hore encourages everyone associated with Wahgunyah Football Netball Club to support the club.
“Please back the committee people in their roles as I have no doubt they have the club’s best interests at heart,” he said.
“As per the constitution, Luke Hawking will be the point of contact moving forward so please get behind these people as they need your support.”
Mr Hore thanked many people at the club for their support which helped make his time in the top job “a very special time” with particular appreciation to wife Lee and family for all their support.
“I thank you all for allowing me this honoured opportunity,” he said.
