Youth gain quality qualifications

A combined initiative between Edward River Council, the NSW Government and the Deniliquin TAFE has allowed a number of local youths to gain new hospitality qualifications.

The hospitality sector is one of the biggest employers of young people in Australia.

According to the 2021 Census, the accommodation and food industry had the youngest industry workforce with 45 per cent of workers aged under 25 years.

In light of this, local Youth Week initiatives were designed to arm more young people with the skills required for such positions.

Deniliquin High School and TAFE students, and other young people in the community, were invited to participate in free barista or responsible service of alcohol training Friday last week.

Open to those ages between 14 and 18, the ERC coordinated program had 20 participants.
