Despite slightly lower numbers to start the season this year, the energy around the grounds was anything but quiet.
Just under 200 eager players, ranging from tiny three year-old ‘Joeys’ right through to determined 17 year-olds, laced up their boots and hit the fields from 9.30am.
The morning brought together a brilliant mix of familiar faces and new players, all ready to kick off another great season of community sport.
Players were divided across Kangas and Joeys, along with A, B, C and D grades, with rounds played in a round-robin format.
This allowed every player plenty of game time, while giving committee members and team managers the chance to carefully balance teams based on strengths, skill levels and overall capabilities.
And from all reports it worked beautifully.
While a few standout players certainly caught the eye, the overall balance meant close, competitive games - exactly what junior sport is all about.
The committee would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone for their patience on what is always one of the busiest and most challenging days of the season.
A special shoutout goes to the incredible parents who stepped up to take on the important role of team managers. Your support keeps the club running.
The first round of competitive play is this Saturday.
There’s also exciting news for the adults.
Following the success of previous seasons, an open team (Team 4) will again be introduced in the A-grade matches.
Parents are warmly encouraged to dust off their boots or runners and join in the fun, with a friendly kick-off at 10.30am.
The match day schedule for Saturday, May 9 is as follows:
9.30am: A-grade: Team 1 vs Team 2, B-grade: Team 1 vs Team 2, B-grade: Team 3 vs Team 4, Kangas and Joeys.
10.30am: A-grade: Team 3 vs Team 4, C-grade: Team 1 vs Team 2, C-grade: Team 3 vs Team 4, D-grade: Team 1 vs Team 2, D-grade: Team 3 vs Team 4.
All players should arrive at least 15 minutes before kick-off to collect jerseys and prepare for the game.
