We couldn’t capitalise on opportunities up forward, and our effort levels dropped as the scoreboard got away from us.
Jack Charlton fought hard, as did Mason Coote, but not enough contributors for the day saw us fall short.
Final score: Blighty 3.7 (25) def by Dookie United 10.18 (78).
Reserves
Travelling to the Dookie hills on Saturday with what seemed good vibes pre-game, Blighty were unfortunately slow to start and couldn’t fix it through the day.
We were caught chasing our man and the ball.
Down back there were a couple of shining lights, along with the thirds boys stepping up, definitely far from out of their depth.
We will appreciate the break to reset, regroup and remember the style of our footy.
Final score: Blighty 1.2 (8) def by Dookie United 19.12 (126).
Thirds
It was a disappointing result, as we believe our team is capable of playing much better football than we showed.
We were very competitive in the first quarter and matched them well early.
Once Dookie gained momentum, they were difficult to stop and showed why they are such a well-oiled side.
Despite the result, there were still positives to take away, and the group knows the standard we are capable of producing.
We’ll regroup, work hard at training, and look to respond strongly next game.
Best on went to Sam Conallin, then Tom Way, Jake Harvey, Ollie Dunmore, Xander Strong and Alex Ledwidge.
Final score: Blighty 1.3 (9) def by Dookie United 16.14 (110).
Fourths
The Blighty fourths travelled to Dookie and experienced great weather for a game of football.
The Dookie fourths were too strong for Blighty, who were short on players.
Filling the team with some of the Blighty fifths and borrowing two Dookie players, we made a team.
Deakin Kelly had another strong game in defence and Eli Hoskin once again had no fear of the bigger opponent.
Best on went to Daniel Burn for a great game in the centre, and for kicking a goal.
Andrew Frost was rewarded for his tireless work on ball all game, and Kayden Leach, Ben Macdonald and Tom Clohesy also put huge efforts in.
Langa Fevaleaki won the Good Sport award for looking after his teammates.
The fourths put a great effort in the game never giving up achieving all of their goals which they had set for themselves.
Final score: Blighty 2.0 (12) def by Dookie United 26.14 (170).
