The Eagles went on the road to Dower Park with confidence, having caused an upset against White Hills the previous week, but will be kicking themselves after giving up a big lead in the last quarter to instead share the points.
United initially looked as if it would be cruising to a comfortable win, well on top for three quarters.
The only points of the first term went to the visitors, the Eagles kicking 2.2 to lead by 14 at the first change, a lead they built on in the second to log a 23-2 advantage at the main break.
The Kangaroos found their first goal after halftime, but Echuca United put in another good shift to have what looked like full control of the game at three-quarter-time, ahead 42-10.
However, the tide completely turned in the final 15 minutes, with Kangaroo Flat booting five unanswered goals and holding the Eagles scoreless to level the ledger at full-time.
In the end, with the momentum entirely with its opponent, Echuca United was fortunate to hang on for the draw in what will go down as a disappointing outcome for the Eagles.
The two points draw the Eagles slightly closer to the teams above them on the ladder, but with four rounds remaining, the club’s best possible finish looks to be sixth.
United hosts second-ranked Eaglehawk this Sunday.
