Council considers Howlong land sale

Mayor Cheryl Cook described it as “a fantastic block of land” and meticulously maintained, but not an appropriate space for parkland.

She said the profit generated from selling the land could be invested back into the Howlong community.

The vacant block contains no park infrastructure or signage identifying it as a park and there are no plans for its development.

A report for the council said that maintaining the land provided minimal community benefit but was an ongoing cost to council, and that developing it into a formal park would require significant, unbudgeted capital expenditure.

The motion was passed unanimously.
