The meeting with Euroa was the second week in a row Kyabram took on a finals contender after facing Echuca in round four, with the Bombers likely to be outmatched again, given the Magpies had a perfect record entering the fixture.
But Emma Quinn’s less-fancied outfit started better than expected at home, scoring seven first-quarter goals, almost as many as it managed for the entire game against Echuca, though Euroa’s quality still shone through as the visitors took a 20-7 lead into the first interval.
Kyabram fought hard at the beginning of the second quarter, trading goals with the Magpies in the opening five minutes, before Euroa put its foot down, going on two separate seven and six goal runs to take a convincing 40-15 lead into half-time.
The Bombers weren’t able to build on what was one of their better halves of the season in the third and fourth quarters, only adding seven more goals to their total.
Euroa — perhaps seeing an opportunity to boost its percentage — didn’t let up, scoring 47 second half goals to run out 87-22 winners, making it the second time this season Kyabram has recorded that result and the third time it scored exactly 22 goals.
The Bombers are rooted to the bottom of the league ladder, though are not the only winless side, being joined by Benalla with a 0-5 record.
Kyabram named Holly Nelson as best-on via its Facebook page, while former player Natasha Dodos, now with Tongala in the Murray Netball League, filled-in for the side with the Blues having a bye.
Next up, the Bombers are back on the road after consecutive home games, taking on reigning premiers Shepparton Bears in what is likely to be another challenging fixture.
