Lowndes’ Melbourne Cobras are facing Adelaide Fire in Bendigo for round five of the national Hockey One League.
This star began his journey with the River Rats and now plays in the country’s most prestigious competition — also representing Victoria and Australia in between.
And he only made his Cobras debut two weeks ago.
It was a historic moment for Lowndes personally, but also the competition — Lowndes playing in the first Melbourne Derby against Hockey Club Melbourne.
His Cobras lost the game and haven’t fared too well to begin the season, currently winless.
But so is Adelaide, adding intrigue for this Sunday.
A River Rats contingent will spearhead the locals travelling to watch Lowndes, which includes one of his former junior coaches and teammates.
Which should give him a boost.
And the group will also see several national and international players showcased.
Some of the global stars stem from Indian roots.
The league says the sport is woven into the fabric of the Indian community in Australia.
Which is why this event is not only for providing Lowndes with local love, it’s also for the hardcore Indian hockey supporters in town.
And we can’t forget the exciting opportunity being offered to young River Rats.
The Cobras are also running a one-hour junior clinic on the day.
It comes with exclusive access to learn from Lowndes and his teammates before they take the field.
The gates at Bendigo Regional Hockey Centre open at 11.30am, a women’s match on first at 1pm before Lowndes graces the synthetic stage at 2.45pm.
