Mixed day for Cats netballers

It was a mixed day for Rutherglen as they recorder three wins from six games against Beechworth across all grades on the weekend.

A Grade

Cats 35 def by Bushrangers 53

Awards: RFNC Cash - Ally Halton, The Wax Trade - Elle Lawrence, Coach’s Award- Ava Cofield.

Despite the 35–53 loss, it was a really positive game from the team.

Everyone worked well together across the court, showing strong teamwork and consistency throughout the match.

Defence was solid and worked hard all game, while the midcourt led by Elle Lawrence and Ally Halton moved the ball effectively and delivered well into the ring.

The shooters, with the addition of Ava Cofield, created good opportunities and worked hard to convert.

Overall, a strong team performance with plenty of positives to take from the game.

The teams fought hard in some close games against the Bushrangers.

B Grade

Cats 36 def Bushrangers 33

Awards: Kath Bartlett - RFNC Cash, Charli Williams - Adroit Insurance

A great first win by the team on the weekend.

There was lots of support as the game got close in the final quarter, including from the bench and supporters.

Kath was on fire in the defensive circle and caused many turnovers which they were able to convert.

Charli quietly went about her business in centre and was the loudest voice on court.

Hopefully next week is more of the same.

The Cats were made to work to find a way to score goals against some tough opposition from Beechworth.

C Grade

Cats 46 def Bushrangers 34

Awards: Grace Milthorpe - RFNC Cash, Kara Renshaw - Movere Pilates.

The team delivered a strong performance to secure a well-deserved win.

Grace was outstanding in the shooting circle, proving to be a sharp shooter throughout the game.

At the attack end, Kara worked tirelessly to create opportunities and drive the ball into the circle.

But all-round great job by all the team.

Skill was shown all over the courts to pierce the Bushrangers’ defences and gain any wins the Cats’ could.

Under 17s

Cats 30 def by Bushrangers 41

Awards: Tayla Meyer - RFNC Cash, Milly Morris - Hadar Homes Hotshot.

Tough game today for the girls, although they improve every week.

They were up at half time which gave them belief, however they were outrun in the last quarter.

Tayla in WD did everything asked of her and showed that bit of grunt needed.

Milly in GA did a lot of defence work down the court whilst also being a solid shooter in the ring.

They have a few things to work on during the week but should come back stronger for round 9.

Win or lose on the weekend, there was plenty for the Cats to take away as they prepare for their next round.

Under 15s

Cats 20 def by Bushrangers 52

Awards: Hadar Homes Hotshot - Audrey Maloney, Daisy Cow Rutherglen - Chelsie Sutton, Spark Award - Zara Meyer.

It was a tough game for the U15s, with Beechworth wanting the ball more and proving difficult to get on top of throughout the match.

While it was not their day on the scoreboard, there were still some positive passages of play and encouraging moments across the court.

The team continued to work hard and showed resilience right to the final whistle.

They will regroup, recharge and keep building on the positives as they prepare for their next match.

Well done to all players for their effort and commitment.

With lots of support from each other, no loss was in vain and no win wasn’t deserved.

Under 13s

Cats 28 def Bushrangers 18

Awards: Coaches Award - Olivia Livingstone, Hadar Homes Hotshot - Isla Verhulst, Daisy Cow Rutherglen - Indi Renshaw.

A great game from all of the girls, who came out strong from the very start.

The first half was goal for goal, with both teams putting in a fantastic effort, but Rutherglen managed to pull away and finish with a brilliant 10-goal win.

Olivia Livingstone was a standout in defence with many great intercepts throughout the game.

Isla Verhulst had her eye in, shooting accurately and positioning herself wonderfully in the circle.

Indi Renshaw ran out a solid four quarters in centre, contributing some fantastic intercepts and precise passes into the goals.

A wonderful effort by all the girls — great job everyone!
