He won bronze in the under-18 men’s shot put at the Oceania Athletics Championships in Darwin.
Wilson threw 17.35 m, and there was just 20cm separating first and third in what was one of the tightest contests of the meet.
Podium places shifted right up until the final round, with the 17 year‑old holding his nerve to secure third place for Australia.
The result follows his gold medal at the Australian Junior Championships, where he opened with a 17.26 m throw to claim the national title.
CJ’s mother, Kirsty Wilson, said the achievement marks the highest level he can reach at this stage of his career.
“This is as high as he can go at this stage, he will now compete at the school level,” she said.
Darwin delivered its own challenges, with Kirsty describing the conditions as “ridiculously hot”.
“It rained, we had a tropical storm, but it was a great experience for him.”
“He really wanted more out of this competition, but he’s learnt so much, and wants to do so much more.”
Connor says he owes a great deal to his team, thanking chiropractor Nicholas Couchman, Benny Grant, and his coach Emma Burge.
Burge is Australia’s number one ranked women’s shot putter and is imparting invaluable wisdom on the determined teen.
