Pickleball has become one of Australia’s most rapidly growing sports, and Corowa Lawn Tennis Club is eager to build on the early enthusiasm shown by locals with interest shown from former and new players.
The club has begun offering sessions of social play, with plans to expand into regular weekly games and beginner friendly competitions.
Committee members said the new sport is designed to be accessible, social, and welcoming, ideal for families, older players, and anyone looking for a fun, low impact way to stay active.
“Pickleball has brought a great buzz to the courts,” a committee spokesperson said.
“It’s easy to learn, social, and a perfect addition to our club’s activities.
“We’d love to see more people get involved as we grow this new activity.”
With the AGM coming up, they’re hoping to get a few enthusiastic pickleballers in attendance.
Most formal committee positions are expected to be filled, but the club is keen to welcome new general committee members.
These roles are flexible and perfect for volunteers who want to help without taking on a major office bearing position.
Corowa Lawn Tennis Club’s Greg Filliponi said sporting clubs thrive because people step forward.
“Whether you can spare an hour a week or a few hours a month, your contribution will make a real difference,” Greg said.
“As recently as last year we saw the Glenly Tennis Club in Albury close its doors due to the lack of people willing to volunteer.
“I’d like to think that we’re a long way from that, but we would like to see a few extra people on the committee.”
