In the Allen Matheson Shield, the Goulburn Valley Playing Area’s division one bowls, reigning premier Tallygaroopna is still the team to beat, becoming the last team standing without a loss after four rounds of the 2026-27 campaign.
In a grand final rematch, 2025-26 runners-up Shepparton Golf, which too entered the clash without a loss, were treated to a harsh reminder of what it endured in March.
Tallygaroopna’s Joey Lia led rink saw the Redlegs take an early three-shot lead, 21-18, but it was Brandon Baldwin’s led second rink that saw Tally explode away from the Golfers.
A 25-17 shots rink put the Redlegs up big, and they wouldn’t drop a rink throughout the contest, despite valiant efforts in rinks three and four by Golfers Malcolm Williams and Paul Ledger.
Overall, it was a demolition job for Tallygaroopna to secure outright first place on the ladder, 18-92 to 0-72 after the last bowl was rolled.
Meanwhile, another top four clash saw Tatura Hill Top elevate into third place on the table.
Knocking Shepparton Park to a second loss, Tatura’s Paul Miller pipped Park’s Richard Hanson 19 shots to 18 to begin proceedings, before Tatura Hill Top scored 17-12 and 23-16 shot victories over the next two rinks.
Shepp Park would come close again in the fourth rink, but once again Tatura held the ascendancy by a single shot, securing an 18-77 to 0-63 triumph on the road.
The loss means Shepparton Park is just a mere 2.19 per cent clear in the top four, as East Shepparton defeated Mooroopna 16-77 to 2-68 to close the premiership points gap.
The pair will play off next week too, with the winner earning the foothold in the finals equation.
To close out round four, Seymour VRI defeated Euroa as both clubs chased their first wins of the season, the home side producing a 17-73 to 1-59 scoreline for its opening victory of the summer.
Euroa host Shepparton Golf next week, while Seymour VRI travel to current minor premier Tallygaroopna’s home lawn.
Tatura Hill Top plays Mooroopna in the other round five fixture.
In division two of the GVPA weekend pennants, Shepparton Golf crushed Tatura Hill Top 18-107 to 0-51.
