United stands tall over Demons

Echuca United’s girls claimed their biggest scalp of the season in the Central Victoria Football League, dominating top four side White Hills.

Bringing only two wins from nine games into the clash, the Eagles looked a different side away at White Hills Recreation Reserve, blitzing the Demons 10.11 (71) to 4.3 (27).

United flew out of the blocks, peppering the White Hills goal throughout the first term, logging ten scoring shots for 4.6 (30).

The Demons earned only 1.1 (7) in reply, and although they clawed some of the deficit back in the second, Echuca United still led by 24 at the main break.

United broke clear again in the third through their stifling defence, holding White Hills to appoint while slotting two goals to break out to a six-goal lead at the final change.

The trend continued in the third, and while the Demons snagged one major, United posted another four scoring shots to seal the big win.

The Eagles received a boost for the game, with their full complement of Bendigo Pioneers players on hand to spark the big performance, as the Coates Talent League outfit had the bye.

Echuca United is three wins adrift with only five rounds remaining, making finals an unlikely prospect, but the side could still finish strong to bring its first season in the league to a close on a positive note.

The side is well positioned to score a second win in a row as it takes on winless Kangaroo Flat at home this Sunday, July 19.
