Coliban Water discovered structural defects in the tower last year that could endanger residents and workers, which triggered the decision to remove it, despite a move to retain it as an historical monument.
Welcome rain

More rain was tipped for yesterday and today.
Historic property for sale
A former POW camp at Murchison is up for sale.
The 40.87ha block just outside the town hosted prisoners of war in World War II and still has some features still intact from that era.
The site was known as Camp 13 and housed German soldiers captured after the sinking of HMAS Sydney and the scuttling of their own ship HSK Kormoran.
German officers were sent to the nearby Dhurringile Mansion along with their personal servants.
Camp 13 was guarded by the 23rd Garrison Battalion, which oversaw around 4000 POWs.
The property is for sale for $650,000 to $680,000, and offers easy access to Murchison and Waranga Shores.

Square dinkum
G’day.
My mate asked, ‘‘What do you think is your biggest regret?’’
I said, ‘‘Not listening to my wife’s advice.’’
‘‘And what was that advice?’’
I replied, ‘’I don’t know — I wasn’t listening.’’
Hooroo!
