Shepparton Swans junior weapon Levi Duffy emerged as prized Princess Park personnel after kicking a bag of six on Sunday in round two of the under-16 division one Goulburn Murray Juniors.
The Bears and Swans entered the clash with round one losses, Shepparton a stinging 58-point defeat to Echuca, while the Swans marginally fell short by four against Kyabram.
At Kialla Park Recreation Reserve, the match was an arm wrestle in the early going, with the boys in red and white edging ahead by four at quarter-time.
Under-16 Murray Bushrangers selections Duffy and Lennix Mellington scored the opening pair of goals for the Swans, while Hayden Feltham and Harry Hanlon drew the lead back to within a kick.
The clubs split the scoring shots in the second term, but slightly greater accuracy from the Swans saw their lead increase by five.
The Swans burst out the sheds with attacking potency, but couldn’t capitalise in the third term, kicking four behinds before finding the goals through Jack Hudson, but William Mathers would issue an instant reply for the Bears.
Although, a Bears comeback would be short-lived, as Duffy entered an unstoppable takeover zone.
The crafty junior snagged the third term’s final goal, before kicking all three majors scored in the last, stamping his impact on the contest with four goals unanswered.
Sol Zak also impressed for the Princess Park tenants in the 9.12 (66) to 4.6 (30) win.
Ryder Dudgeon and Noah Wells were defiant in defeat for the home side, as the Bears will aim to rebound against Mooroopna in round three.
The Swans take on the unbeaten Murray Bombers this weekend.
