Showing up. The Lions hosted the Swans at home last week. While it was another tough game for Wahgunyah, Chiltern showed great support for the battling club bringing a great crowd of supporters and making donations at the gate. Photo by Simon Ginns.
Wahgunyah Football Netball Club president Darryl Hore has praised the Chiltern Swans and other TDFL clubs for their support as the Lions footballers continue to battle their way through the season.

While it has been a tough few weeks on the scoreboard, Wahgunyah players have continued to hold their head high with a determination not to forfeit any games or throw in the towel.
Hore told the Free Press he couldn’t be prouder of his club.
“We always knew it was going to be a tough year, but each week the boys turn up and show great spirit,” he said.
“Our challenge now for the players is to keep their heads up each week.”
Last Saturday, Wahgunyah hosted Chiltern, and while the footballers took another thumping, the rival club went “above and beyond” to support the Lions.
“Chiltern took things to a new level,” Hore said.
“We had Chiltern supporters coming through the gate, paying the entry fee and also leaving donations for the club. Some Wahgunyah people were doing the same. It was just unbelievable.
“They made sure they had plenty of supporters at the game too. They rallied around us which was unexpected and quite heartening.
“Last week Rutherglen were fantastic too. They were full of praise and thankful we could help them with the Good Friday Appeal. Wodonga Saints were also brilliant. The support from the outside is just phenomenal.”
Hore said Wahgunyah would continue to front up each week.
“The players are determined to fight on. Hopefully we can attract a few more players along the way,” he said.
“While my attention has been focussed on the footballers over the last few weeks, our netballers have really been leading the charge.
“They are pulling us through each week. I couldn’t be happier with the way they have pushed ahead.”
